The United Methodist Church is truly global, and connected with missions and ministries all over the world, coordinated through the General Board of Global Ministries (www.umcmission.org). The churches and the Desert Southwest Conference support these ministries in many ways, coordinated in part by the Conference Board of Global Ministries. Support can be in the form of donations through The Advance, through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), and through 10-Fold. Another form of support is through volunteering, either locally (such as by building houses through Habitat for Humanity) or by sending volunteers to help with projects both in the USA and around the world, such as through UMVIM (United Methodist Volunteers in Mission). One project near and dear to the hearts of many in the DSC is Africa University, where the DSC endowed a Chair in Health Sciences and performed other hands-on mission work. A major mission project currently underway in both the global church and the Conference is Imagine No Malaria, which our Conference has pledged to save 200,000 lives from the dreadful disease.
