Church & Society
The Bible is full of mandates and challenges that ask us, the disciples of Jesus Christ, to “Make our light shine, so that others may see our good works and give glory to our God in heaven (Matthew 5:16).” This is our purpose as the Board of Church and Society. We seek to be an arm of the church that helps us to live our call “to seek justice,” which means biblically to order our lives in a way that helps the poor, the widow, the orphan, and any who are powerless in their society. Jesus says, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called to children of God (Matthew 5:9).” Shalom, which we translate as peace means more than the absence of conflict. To live in shalom, as a peacemaker, means we actively live our lives in a way that brings healing, wholeness, harmony and well being to the lives of people we meet. We seek to be an immediate aid to those in need, while striving to change the systems that may oppress people by preventing them the access to the wholeness (holiness) of life. Our mission statement:
To equip the Desert Southwest Conference family to be a faithful influence for social justice through education and advocacy.
