One with Christ, One with Each Other, One in Ministry to All the World

Urban Academy

-  Do you do ministry in a diverse urban setting with all its challenges?
-  Is your church in need of revitalization?
-  Do members of your congregation respond to change by pushing back?
-  Is ministry impeded at your facility by ‘untouchable’ memorial rooms and spaces?
-  Does your church have opportunities to reach out to diverse ethnic and socioeconomic groups?

If you are experiencing challenges similar to these that come with ministry in urban churches, you are invited to participate in the Desert Southwest  Conference Urban Academy, sponsored by the DSC Vital Faith Committee. The academy calls participants to commit themselves to six sessions over a two-year period. In the first year, each session will include engaging workshops on such topics as Urban Theology, Urban Evangelism, Congregational Development, Community Economic Development, Dismantling Racism, Multicultural Ministry, and Leadership Development. Academy participants will share experiences and have collaborative conversations with other churches facing similar barriers and challenges. The scheduled dates are September 24-26, 2009; January 28-30, 2010; and April 29-May 1, 2010.

The cost is $75 per person, per session.  Partial Scholarships are available.
We invite your church leadership to be in prayerful discernment about this exciting opportunity.
