One with Christ, One with Each Other, One in Ministry to All the World

Health & Caring Survey Results 2012

Health & Caring Seminar February 12, 2013

The Health & Welfare commitee conducted a survey of the churches in the Desert southwest Conference to  determine information about Health & Caring ministries.

Health and Caring ministries do far more than tending for the physical body.  The disciples in these ministries tend to the mental, spiritual, emotional and social well being of the congregations within the Desert Southwest Conference. Some, but not all are lead by parish nurses, social workers and or other health care professionals

In our 2012 survey  we found that some churches had what they called “Health Ministries” some had “Caring Ministries” and some churches said they did not have either but they did have Stephen ministry, prayer ministry, shawl ministry, visitations, phone shepherds, CPR and AED classes, grief share, healing services, meals, divorce care and many others.

Survey results showed many churches in  the conference wanted information on wellness programs, parish nursing and caring for our aging population.  In addition many churches wanted to know “How To” get started and improve on Health and Caring Ministries.

In response to the survey we are offering a seminar for Health & Caring ministries on Tuesday February 12. The seminar will offer many resources for finding the help needed in your community for the aging population.

Health & Caring ministries feel the pulse of the congregation through the touch of a parish nurse with a stethoscope, a prayer shawl, prayers, visitation and meals with surgery or illness, support for those with cancer and special needs children.

These are disciples with the heart of Jesus listening touching and serving and growing those within the congregation.
